The Haiti Democracy Project and the members of its Electoral Observation Mission in Haiti praised the Haitian voters for the patience they have demonstrated throughout the day and their strong commitment to democracy. Despite the threats of violence, and the technical deficiencies noted in the process, voters turned out were extremely encouraging. The Haitian National Police, despite the lack of resources and manpower proved to be up to the challenges of the day.


The Haiti Democracy Project calls on the Organization of American States (OAS) and The Haitian electoral authorities (CEP) to rise to the expectations of the Haitian people in managing the vote count and the consolidation of the results effectively. ?Monitoring of the vote count and the subsequent steps are critical to building confidence in the success of the process and its results” said James Morrell Executive Director of HDP
