Originally: Father Adrien

Father Antoine Adrien, former head of the Holy Ghost (later Spirit) order

in Haiti and a leading Haitian liberation theologian, died in

Port-au-Prince on May 12, aged 81.  He had been incapacitated for several

years after a stroke.  He fought the Duvalier regime in the 1960s in Haiti

and in exile, was a key figure in the overthrow of the Avril regime in 1990

and a leading supporter (some say mentor) of Aristide, with whom he

eventually became disillusioned.
